This article provides a comprehensive review and breakdown of the release, exploring its gameplay mechanics, artistic direction, narrative subtleties, and why Akori Studio might have just created a cult classic. What Exactly is "Morning Wood -v1.0-?" Let’s clear the air immediately. Morning Wood -v1.0- By Akori Studio is not a risqué dating simulator or a crude shock-value game. Instead, it is a precision platformer meets resource-management hybrid set in a sentient, biodynamic forest.

Ignoring the juvenile potential of the title, is a masterpiece of indie design. It respects your time, challenges your reflexes, and unexpectedly warms your heart. It is a game about growth, decay, and finding light in the darkest of mornings.

Another adds: "This is what indie gaming should be: weird, heartfelt, and addictive. Morning Wood -v1.0- is no joke." | Game | Difficulty | Humor | Emotional Depth | Replayability | | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | | Morning Wood -v1.0- | High | Dry, Puns | High | Very High | | Celeste | Very High | Low | Very High | High | | Super Meat Boy | Very High | Crass | Low | Medium | | Ori and the Blind Forest | Medium | Whimsical | High | Medium |

The player assumes the role of "Stump," a grumpy, anthropomorphic tree stump who has lost his ability to photosynthesize. The "Morning Wood" of the title refers to the mystical, sun-drenched timber that only appears during the dawn cycle—a rare, glowing resource that our protagonist must harvest to save his dying woodland home.

IYTTIW sample set

IYTTIW stands for "If You Think This Is Weird". A very unique set based on original trumpet samples. Its diminutive size packs a big sound. Perfect on its own or for doubling other sounds. I played and recorded some trumpet and made samples from the performance. I then resynthesized the samples to alter their timbral and spectral quality. In some, you can still hear the trumpet and there are others where their origin is well hidden.

It was originally a commercial set that is now free. It contains 41 regular multi-sampled programs without velocity. All are short sounds, no pads here. It's very well-suited for staccato playing and sequencing.

It has 551 samples for a small size of 15.7 MB and is offered in the following formats: wav, sfz, soundfont, Native Instruments Kontakt 3.5 or better (full version, not the free Player).

All formats are in this single DOWNLOAD

Kontakt 3.5 version additionally has 21 multis and 50 instruments made with the Tone and Time machines that greatly expand its sound palette. These stretched instruments usually have longer durations than the basic samples, 14 of them with sustain.

Here's an audio example using a few samples with pitch randomization:  IYTTIW in QuadZamp
